How does LEADER+ work

Actions

The LEADER+ Programme will fund three areas of activity called 'Actions', which have been defined by the EU. These are as follows:

Action 1: Integrated, pilot development projects. The action will assist local organisations to develop and implement high quality, innovative and sustainable development plans and projects.

Action 2: Co-operation between rural areas. LEADER+ Groups are required to work on joint projects with other groups in the UK, EU or other countries, by pooling skills and resources to achieve the objectives set out in their development plans.

Action 3: Networking. All LEADER+ Groups exchange ideas and share good practice through the national LEADER+ network.

The key themes, which the Local Action Group wishes to see developed under the above actions are detailed in the Western Isles, Skye and Lochalsh LEADER+ Business Plan.

Taking Forward a Project

LEADER+ has dedicated staffing to help communities take forward projects. Your local field officer will advise on the eligibility of your project and on the support materials you will be required to gather in support of your project. Eligible projects will be forwarded to the Local Action Group, who are responsible for approving LEADER+ projects.

If you have a proposal that you wish to discuss, please contact the LEADER+ field officer in your area. The field officers are based in the two Local Enterprise Companies:

Western Isles Enterprise, James Square, 9 James Street, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2QN
Telephone: 01851 703 703

Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise, King’s House, The Green, Portree, Isle of Skye, IV51 9BS
Telephone: 01478 61 2841

Alternatively, please use the LEADER+ on-line enquiry form.
