Young People

The LEADER+ programme seeks to be socially inclusive across all groupings and encourage as many as possible to participate in the development process. The programme will, however, be targeted to give priority to young people and women. It will seek to prioritise and to encourage their aspirations, allowing them to become more participative within their organisations and within their local communities.

It will be essential over the coming period that the Western Isles, Skye and Lochalsh area retains a greater proportion of its young people and encourages increased numbers of young out-migrants to return to the area. It will also be essential to encourage young people to become more participative in community groups, particularly in more peripheral communities.

The Local Action Group is particularly keen to see projects come forward which will seek to address issues relating to the following:

  • Population decline and demographic imbalance
  • Outward migration of young people
  • Remoteness of centres of learning
  • Perception of social and geographical exclusion
  • Provision of social / recreational facilities

The Local Action Group is also keen to see ideas come forward from young people themselves. If you have any thoughts on issues relating to young people or have a project you believe could be developed please get in touch with us.
